Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect your data.

1. Who are we?

We are Jacob Wood and Dr. Nicole L'Etoile, CPACC, co-hosts of the Beyond Alt Text podcast. You can reach us for any privacy-related questions or to exercise your data rights via our Contact page.

2. What data do we collect?

This site collects very little. The only personal data we receive is:

  • Contact form submissions: if you use our Contact page, the name, email address, and message you enter.

We also use GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics service, to count how the site is used. It does not use cookies or store anything in your browser, and it does not store your IP address. It records:

  • Page visits: which page was viewed, the site you came from (if any), your browser and operating system, your screen width, your language, and your country (worked out from your IP address, which is then discarded).
  • Episode player activity: when an episode is played, how much of it is played (25%, 50%, 75%, and finished), and when the full transcript is opened.
  • Some link clicks: following a link to our tip jar, YouTube channel, Where to Listen page, a listening platform, or a release-reminder calendar.

This information is counted in totals and can't be used to identify you. We do not use tracking cookies or advertising of any kind on this site.

3. Why do we collect this data?

  • To respond to you: contact form submissions are used only to reply to your message.
  • To improve the show and the site: analytics tell us which episodes people listen to, how much of them they hear, and whether transcripts and links are useful. We only look at totals.

We use the following third-party services to run this site. Each has its own privacy policy:

5. Your Rights

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Right to Access: you can ask us for a copy of the data we have about you.
  • Right to Rectification: you can ask us to correct any inaccurate information.
  • Right to Erasure: you can ask us to delete your personal data.
  • Right to Object: you can object to how we process your data.

To exercise these rights, please use our Contact page. We will respond to your request within 30 days. Analytics are only kept as totals that can't be linked to you, so there is no analytics data about you personally to access or delete.
